Beam Suntory commissioned Steven Noble to create some illustrations for their Basil Hayden brand mark. The illustrations include the portrait done in a bold graphic style along with a background landscape scene completed in a scratchboard woodcut style for “Old Grand-Dad” labels. Basil Hayden Sr. was a Maryland Catholic who led a group of twenty-five Catholic families from Maryland into what is now Nelson County, Kentucky (near Bardstown) in 1785.[citation needed] There Hayden donated the land for the first Catholic church west of the Alleghenies and the first Catholic church in what is now the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
