Kahlúa approached Steven Noble to help in their rebrand with an updated illustration for their packaging labels. The illustration includes the mesoamerican symbolic archway entrance along the Mexican village landscape in the distant background. The illustration was hand-drawn in a line art “etched” style and supplied digitally as eps files. Kahlúa, meaning "House of the Acolhua people" in the Veracruz Nahuatl language. Kahlúa was Hispanicized as Ulúa, forming the name of the modern San Juan de Ulúa fortress.
