Steven Noble created this illustration to commemorate and honor the brave soldiers who had fought on the beaches of Normandy in 1944 during World War II by rendering the D-Day landings onto the M1 Garand rifle used during that military conflict. The M1 Garand or M1 rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the service rifle of the U.S. Army during World War II. The rifle is chambered for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and is named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. The artwork was hand drawn in an etching style to follow the entire length of the rifle.
