Steven Noble was tasked with creating an illustration for Miller High Life “Friends of the Field” to celebrate the outdoors. In the early 1900s, most Americans enjoyed their beer in a saloon or taken home in bucket. As a market developed for “bottle beer,” Miller Brewers crafted a crisp, refreshing, effervescent flagship beer. Within three years, the new beer earned the nickname “The Champagne of Bottle Beer.” The illustration was created in a scratchboard woodcut style with colored added digitally.
